Crypto markets move fastest exactly when you’re not looking at a screen. A margin call can go from a warning to a liquidation in minutes, and by the time you notice a push notification, the position might already be closed out.
The fix isn’t watching harder. It’s making sure the one alert that matters actually reaches you — even if your phone is face-down, silenced, or on Do Not Disturb.
What to watch
Most traders set two tiers of alerts, not one:
- A warning tier, when margin ratio or maintenance margin crosses a level you can still act on (say, 50%).
- An emergency tier, closer to the exchange’s own liquidation threshold, where every minute counts.
Use WhatsApp for the warning tier. Save the phone call for the emergency tier — a call is harder to miss, but you don’t want your phone ringing every time the market wobbles.
How to set it up
BreakPass doesn’t watch your exchange or your positions — your trading bot, exchange price alert, or TradingView webhook does that. You point it at BreakPass instead of, or alongside, a push notification:
- If you already use TradingView alerts, add BreakPass’s webhook link as the alert’s webhook URL.
- If you run a bot or a custom script, send it the same way — a webhook call from your bot to your BreakPass link.
- Tell your AI agent, in plain words, what to watch for and when to escalate from a message to a call.
Tips
- Test the emergency tier once with a small, deliberate trigger so you know the call actually arrives.
- Save BreakPass’s number as a favourite (iPhone) or a starred contact (Android) before you need it — that’s what lets a call through Do Not Disturb.
- Keep the warning tier on WhatsApp only. WhatsApp doesn’t break through Do Not Disturb, so it’s the right channel for “worth knowing,” not “wake me up.”
- If you run several bots or accounts, use one BreakPass setup and let your agent label which account triggered the alert.
None of this replaces good risk management — stop-losses, position sizing, keeping some margin in reserve. It just means that when your bot sees trouble coming, you’re not the last to know.
